November 17th, 2020: Somehow missed it when they initially tweeted it, but the London Vocal Project tweeted in February that they are "planning big things" for Jon's centenary in 2021. They also linked a video of themselves performing Jon's lyrics for Miles Davis's version of "The Duke", with Jon beaming in the audience.

October 28th, 2019: The London Vocal Project reported yesterday that they've finished recording and mixing the choir tracks for their recording of Jon's Miles Ahead. They still have to record the solos, so I think we're looking at a 2020 release at best, but still, it's real progress! (The announcement includes a great picture of Jon, if you're reading this you should really click through.)

November 27th, 2017: I'm sad to report Jon died last week at age 96. Thorough NYT obit.

I'll try to get around to giving the entire web site an update to reflect this, but it will probably be a while.

October 31st, 2017: A mass mailing from the London Vocal Project reminded me to check in on the status of Miles Ahead. Here's a review of one of the London performances. Here's a video of the encore of (I think) the US premiere, with Jon singing a solo. It looks like they're now projected 2018 to release the album of the project.

February 17th, 2017: Huge good news: the London Vocal Project is giving the world premiere for Jon's completed vocalese version of Miles Ahead. Also, "LVP has spent 2016 recording the work, and it is hoped it will be released in 2017. A London premiere has been set for Sunday 21st May 2017, at Kings Place."

February 17th, 2017: While poking around with this web page, I discovered that the documentary on Jon from 2008 is available online. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

July 3rd, 2012: Just discovered a short but nice interview with Jon on the subject of Kurt Elling. Also the two are doing a special concert together later this month.

October 4th, 2009: Just learned that there is a documentary "Jon Hendricks: Tell Me The Truth" showing tonight in Paris, with a concert afterward. If I read the documentary's webpage correctly (and I don't read French, so I may not!) you can order a DVD of it.

April 25th, 2009: Jon now has a MySpace page.

April 16th, 2009: Jon was a surprise guest at the Kurt Elling "Dedicated to You" concert at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor this evening, singing extended scat solos in the finale and the encore. A fantastic addition to a very nice concert, and Jon was in good spirits afterwards.

January 14th, 2007: I was delighted to see Jon mentioned in the Ann Arbor News this morning, particularly because it mentioned upcoming gigs at Emory University in Atlanta.

October 15th, 2006: Amazon.com just let me know they have Jon Hendricks: A Good Git-Together available. I've never heard of it before, and they don't have any information other than the release date. The cover art makes it look like it's from the fifties or sixties, and says "with Cannball Adderly and Wes Montgomery." I've ordered it, so hopefully I'll know more soon.

July 25th, 2006: Jon appears on a couple of tracks on Karrin Allyson's new CD Footprints.

October 6th, 2005: Unfortunately, the message board was hacked last week, and I have taken it down completely until I can figure out how to restore it properly and safely. Or find another host for it.

June 19th, 2005: Saw Jon last night at the Art Tatum Jazz Heritage Festival. As a result, I've got several new concert dates listed today (including one tonight!) as well as the news that Jon has added the Miles Davis / Gil Evans version of "Oh Bess, Oh Where's My Bess" to his repertoire.

January 8th, 2005: Updated with Four Brothers concert in May.

October 17th, 2004: Updated with some info on upcoming Toledo-area concerts, plus added "French Legion of Honor Awardee" to the front page.

Also, there was a recent article on Jon's childhood in Toledo in the Blade.

June 4th, 2004: Added Jon's French concert dates this weekend!

April 3rd, 2004: Finally switched over to new message board software. Hopefully this will eliminate the spam problem.

January 20th, 2004: Flash News: Thursday the 22nd, Jon Hendricks' University of Toledo Vocalstra is performing for the International Association of Jazz Educators Conference. The location is the Mercury Ballroom, Hilton Hotel, NYC.

April 28th, 2003: People I Know, which features Jon playing himself and singing, was finally released to US theatres last Friday.

Also I've added some more Upcoming Performances.

March 1st, 2003: Added the Four Brothers European tour has been to Upcoming Performances.

March 1st, 2003: Two articles (from the Toledo Blade) on the Shehearazde concert last weekend: "Jazz great's verve drives show" and "Telling Sheherazade's story in a new way" (Not sure how long these links will work.)

February 17th, 2003: The latest word from Jon is that the Four Brothers are working on putting together a European Tour for this summer. We'll have the details here as soon as they are finalized.

February 3rd, 2003: Bunch of news from Jon today. Two shows have been added to the Upcoming Performances page. Jon has a new assistant, who is helping him answer questions on the Message Board, and, more importantly, work on Jon's lyric books. They hope to have the first book out later this year.

June 12th, 2002: Tickets are still available for the Four Brothers concert in Chicago this weekend. See www.kurtelling.com for details.

June 12th, 2002: New version of Jon Hendricks website, www.jonhendricks.com, comes on-line.
